Hand Hills Lake Club Charity Sale Was a Great Success

The Charity Sale on the 10th of March was a real success. STARS and Kidsport will reap the benefits as $4,500.00 was raised. The baking was the biggest seller again this year and if there was something that wasn’t selling, then cookies or buns were added to the pile and it sold like crazy! Vern and Catherine Thuroo, John Rew and Glenn Benedict were the top buyers.

Layton and Melissa Rosins' kids were the ones that put the most into this sale, they baked at least 10 dozen cupcakes, decorated them and packed them up for sale. Melissa said that the kids did all the work. Way to go Lena, Ciana, Liam and Mairi! The cupcakes sold in packages of 6 and 5 of them sold for 35 dollars each. Dave kept the evening entertaining and Vern Thuroo and Kevin Girletz were the targets of many jokes and jabs.

The Parking for the Stampede was the first to be put up for bid. Although controversial, everyone at the sale was pleased with the results. The ten lots averaged $230 each. One couple from Milo/Vulcan, drove all the way to the Hills to secure a site. They also bought two trays of cinnamon buns, all at the prompting of Dave saying that one would never make it all the way to Vulvan so they better take two. They paid $120 for the two trays. We received a message from them when they got home “We, Pete & Shannon Silbernagel of the Milo/Vulcan area would like to let your community know that the cinnamon buns that we bought at your auction were well worth the $5.00 per bun. Someone is a very good cook. We were also able to purchase a camping space at your auction. As we are not able to walk very far anymore, we can now attend the rodeo and have a camping spot that will allow us to get to and from the rodeo,  which we have attended for over 50 years.” It was very heart warming to know they were able to do that! Thanks to all the people who purchased a site for the 2017 Stampede. John Rew and his never ending support of our community bought two camping sites and donated one of them back to the Club with the proceeds from it going to the Charity Sale. Thanks John!

All  in all it was another amazing event at the Hand Hills. This community is alive and thriving!!
